Air Products EFW

Air Products is a world-leading Industrial Gases company in operation for over 75 years. The company’s core Industrial Gases business provides atmospheric and process gases and related equipment to manufacturing markets, including refining and petrochemical, metals, electronics, and food and beverage. Air Products is also the world’s leading supplier of liquefied natural gas process technology and equipment. The company’s Performance Materials Division serves the polyurethanes, cleaning and coatings, and adhesives industries.
Recent diversification saw Air Products build an energy from waste plant, TV1, on Teesside.
Unfortunately unreliability of the new Tees Valley TV1, which is the largest advanced plasma gasification renewable energy facility in the UK, meant that the facility was uneconomical to run therefore Air Product announced in December 2016 TV1 would be shutdown despite significant effort to identify investors.
The facility would have provided around 49.9 MW of renewable electricity, generated from non-recyclable residual waste, and created over 700 construction jobs and 50 permanent jobs to support commercial operation.

Working in partnership

rak supported Air Products providing inspection services, pressure systems and civil/structural and NDT services during both the commissioning stages and initial operations of the plant. This involvement has given us unique knowledge and understanding of the inherent problems and deterioration mechanisms associated with operating such novel and advanced energy from waste facilities.
